Choosing the Right Duvets
Even though you can find duvets online for much cheaper than at the store, when ordering one you still need to know what is the best for your own needs. You will have to look at what type of pillows that you have or maybe order a pillow to match the other products that you want. If you are ordering a new duvet then changes are you will want something that matches the other bedding including the pillows.
There are a number of other things to consider when looking at duvets, especially concerning the materials that make up the products. There are four basic materials that the duvet is made from. They are polyester, cotton, silk, and down. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, so here are a few things to know before purchasing one.
Polyester
This is the most economical material to use for a duvet and come in a very large assortment of styles, sizes, colours, and any other variant that may apply. This makes it a little easier to match to the pillow that is already there. These are known to be warm but light at the same time thus making them comfortable to use. They also tend to stand the test of time because they are pretty durable and can be used in any setting. Sometimes these come in the reversible style so that buying them is even more practical. The downside to polyester is that they tend to collect dust thus setting off allergies in some individuals.
Cotton
These are made from natural materials that can breathe a little better therefore better suited to those with allergies. It will also give you a better sleep and keep you warmer on the colder nights because it keeps the moisture away from your skin. They are a bit lighter than the regular duvet though so you might need that extra blanket on top if you like the heavier feel. Like polyester, they are easy to clean because you just need to put them into the washing machine.
Silk
Silk is considered to be the alternative to our last type, the down duvet. It is warm, lightweight, but more expensive than the previous two of course. This is a good choice for those who have allergies so the extra money might just be worth it. The colour schemes are not so wide for these duvets. Usually they come in white or cream so you will probably want to look into getting some covers for them to keep them clean.
Down
These come in a wide variety but generally according to the weight. They are very warm and in some places are considered to be more of a luxury. However, because of internet shopping you can find these much cheaper now than ever before. While looking at this type you will find weights of between around 600 and 800. The higher the number then the better quality and the more expensive it will be. Some also have a ‘baffle box’ which is an inside layer that stops the down from moving around.
