Accrington Stanley’s Tom Bender recovering
Following being knocked unconscious on the field during a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game versus Tranmere Rovers, Tom Bender has now been given the ok to leave the hospital and is now recovering in his own home.
Many were worried that the on-loan defender had received a major injury or even a broken neck in the mishap which occurred in the 39th minute when he clashed with goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin and Tranmere’s Lucas Akins.
Bender was knocked unconscious and was treated on the pitch hooked up to a drip and oxygen for 30 minutes before an ambulance came. He was then taken for a brain scan at the Royal Blackburn Hospital where he was given the all-clear but was kept in hospital for a couple of days for observation.
The game was called off following the unpleasant incident, and has been rescheduled to occur on Wednesday 12 October. Bender won’t be playing as he is currently back at his parent club Colchester for some weeks while he rebounds.
